Paid Work Available Now
Get Paid to Report for Queer Kentucky
Queer Kentucky is the only dedicated LGBTQ+ newsroom in Kentucky. We have active funded assignments available right now, with pay attached to specific projects. These are real reporting gigs, not awareness content.
We work with journalists and community writers. Experience requirements vary by project. If we have not worked with you before, you will need to share a writing sample that reflects the kind of work the assignment requires. Academic papers, creative writing, and promotional content do not qualify. Read each brief carefully before pitching.

HIV/AIDS Reporting
Rural Kentucky: HIV, Harm Reduction, and the Gaps in Care
We have funded assignments for journalists and community writers ready to cover HIV and AIDS in Kentucky. This project is focused on closing the reporting gaps that exist for rural queer communities across the state, including BIPOC queer people in rural and Appalachian Kentucky. This is reported journalism, not awareness content.
HIV/AIDS Reporting
Black and Brown Queer Kentuckians: HIV, Stigma, and Survival
We have funded assignments for experienced journalists and storytellers ready to cover the real, complicated, human impact of HIV in Kentucky through a Black queer lens. Queer people of color must be at the center of this reporting. This is reported journalism, not awareness content.
Data-Driven Reporting
Help Humanize LGBTQ+ Health Data
Queer Kentucky co-publishes the only longitudinal health survey of LGBTQ+ Kentuckians, with data from over 4,100 respondents across 76 counties. We have more stories in that data than we can tell alone. We are looking for writers who can take research and make it human. No journalism degree required. Excellent writing required.
Regional Reporting
Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati Stories
We have limited funded slots for stories rooted in Northern Kentucky and the Cincinnati area. These can be journalistic, community-based, historical, or arts and culture focused, as long as they center LGBTQ+ people and communities in the region.
Regional Reporting
Eastern Kentucky Stories
We have limited funded slots for stories rooted in Eastern Kentucky. These can be journalistic, community-based, historical, or arts and culture focused, as long as they center LGBTQ+ people and communities in the region.
Print Magazine Project
Cincinnati Trans Youth Magazine: Tell Your Own Story
The City of Cincinnati has retained Queer Kentucky to produce a print magazine written entirely by Cincinnati trans and nonbinary youth. We are looking for trans and nonbinary writers between 18 and 24 who live in Cincinnati. You do not need a journalism degree. You do not need clips. You need a story worth telling and the drive to report it.
