Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati Stories

About This Opportunity

Queer Kentucky covers LGBTQ+ life across the entire state, and that includes the communities along the Ohio River. Many Kentuckians rely on resources, healthcare, and community spaces in Cincinnati, and the LGBTQ+ stories in this region deserve to be told.

We have limited funded slots for stories rooted in Northern Kentucky and the Cincinnati area. These can be journalistic, community-based, historical, or arts and culture focused, as long as they center LGBTQ+ people and communities in the region.

If you are pitching a Cincinnati-based story, your pitch is strongly encouraged to include a Northern Kentucky tie. Stories that connect Cincinnati resources, events, or communities to Kentuckians who cross the river to access them are a strong fit.

What We Are Looking For

Strong pitches may include:

• Reported stories on LGBTQ+ health, safety, or community resources in NKY or Cincinnati that serve Kentucky residents
• Community profiles, oral histories, or features centered on LGBTQ+ people in the region
• Arts and culture coverage of LGBTQ+ events, venues, or makers in NKY or Cincinnati
• Historical stories about LGBTQ+ life in Northern Kentucky or the Ohio Valley
• Stories about cross-border community building between Kentucky and Ohio

Eligibility

Open to journalists and community writers at All types of experienced writers. No journalism degree required.

If we have not worked with you before, you will need to share a writing sample that reflects the kind of work you are pitching. Academic papers, creative writing, and promotional content do not qualify.
