Republishing Queer Kentucky

Last updated April 2026Kentucky’s only LGBTQ+ newsroom

Our stories are built in community, reported carefully, and often told by the people most affected. We want them read widely. If you want to republish, you are welcome to. Here is how we ask you to do it.

The short version

Reprint our stories in full. Credit the reporter. Link back at the top. Keep our tracking pixel in the HTML. Do not sell ads directly against the piece. If you need to edit or translate, email us first.

The rules

  1. Publish the story in full, without edits

You may reprint our reporting online or in print without asking. Please do not cut, rewrite, retitle, translate, or otherwise alter the story. If you need to shorten for space, change the headline, or translate it for a different audience, email us first. We are usually fast on approvals.

  2. Credit the reporter in the byline

Use this exact format, with the reporter’s name as it appears on our site:

    By [Reporter Name], Queer Kentucky
  3. Add this line at the top of the article, with the links live

Place this attribution above the lede, before the story begins:

This story was originally published by Queer Kentucky, Kentucky’s only LGBTQ+ newsroom.

Hyperlink This story to the original article URL. Hyperlink Queer Kentucky to queerkentucky.com.

  4. Keep our tracking pixel in the HTML

When you copy a Queer Kentucky story, you must keep the tracking pixel HTML code on your story page. Do not strip it out, do not modify it, and do not replace it with your own. The pixel does not collect personal data. It lets us see that the story is being read, which is how we report impact to funders and keep this newsroom running. Removing it is a violation of these guidelines.

  5. Do not republish our photos or graphics

Photo rights for Queer Kentucky stories vary by piece. Many of our images are contributed by freelance photographers, subjects of our reporting, or partner organizations, and those rights belong to them, not to us. We are not able to license them out for republication. Please use your own photography, a stock image, or an illustration. If you believe an image is essential to the story and cannot be replaced, email us and we will reach out to the photographer on your behalf.

  6. Do not sell ads directly against the story

You may publish our stories on pages that carry your standard site advertising. You may not sell sponsorships, native ads, or placements tied specifically to one of our pieces.

  7. Tag us when you share on social

We are @queerkentucky on Instagram, Facebook, X, and Bluesky. Tagging helps the story travel and helps us amplify your republication in return.

  8. Honor corrections and updates

If we issue a correction, add reporting, or pull a story after it has run, we will tell you. You have 72 hours from that notice to update or remove your republished version.

“We would love it if you ended your republished piece with a line inviting readers to subscribe to Queer Kentucky, linked back to us. Not required. Appreciated.”

A note on license and revocation

This is a limited republication license from Queer Kentucky. It is not a transfer of copyright and it is not an open Creative Commons license. We retain full rights to our work. We reserve the right to revoke republication permission at any time, for any reason, by written notice.

These guidelines are editorial policy, not legal advice. If you are a large outlet, a syndicator, or an aggregator and you want a formal syndication agreement, email us.
