Ethel Cain announces ‘limited pressing’ of “Preacher’s Daughter” vinyl release
Mother has finally dropped the vinyl we’ve all been obsessively waiting for.
Ethel Cain announced on Instagram today that her debut album, Preacher’s Daughter, is now available for vinyl pre-order, with copies set to hit stores on Jan. 17. Fans have consistently asked the singer for the vinyl since the album was originally released on streaming platforms in 2022. Cain has previously teased the possibility of a vinyl release over the past two years, sometimes even definitively stating there would never be a Preacher’s Daughter vinyl.
The album weaves a dark and tragic narrative surrounding the character, Ethel Cain (Hayden Silas Anhedönia’s stage name), that unfolds like a Southern Gothic epic. The concept album explores themes of religious trauma, generational curses, family dynamics, and existential longing, all wrapped in the framework of a young woman’s life in the rural South.
Now, she’s finally giving us what we’ve waited for, oh, so patiently.
“At very long last, the tale of Ethel Cain will be told on vinyl,” she writes on Instagram. “It’s been a long journey to get here, so I’m beyond excited for you to all hold it for yourselves.”
If you’ve followed Ethel Cain for a while and have sat at the edge of your seat, fingertips ready to purchase items from her merch drop, then I’m sure you’re wondering if the American Teenager singer’s album has already sold out.
The verdict is still out. What we do know is that there is a limited quantity of special vinyls exclusively for indie record stores that will also include the ‘Missing’ poster with the standard packaging — packaging that Cain designed herself and signed. We also know that 200 of the limited quantity vinyls were (now sold out) housed with the LGBTQ+ Owned, Grafitti Records in partnership with their “Pride Doesn’t Stop” program which allowed the record store to donate $1,000 to Campaign for Southern Equality. But what about beyond the limited editions? Looks like Amazon US is your best bet.
According to the Record Day Store website, Guestroom Records is the only record store in Kentucky that will distribute the coveted limited edition vinyl, however, the store said it is unclear how many they will receive.
Earlier today, Ethel Cain shared a message on her Instagram story, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support from her fans. She also addressed the potential for product shortages, assuring her followers that she and her team are committed to working tirelessly to ensure everyone who wants a vinyl copy of Preacher’s Daughter can get one.
“As I’m sure you’ve all noticed, this was certainly a limited pressing, so in order to make sure as many of you get a copy as possible, the most efficient way to get it is to ask for it,” she writes. “Email/Ask @rxsongs[Prescription Songs], @awal [AWAL Record Label], and whatever vinyl distributor/record store you frequent!! Tell them how much you want more pressings of the vinyl, and tell them how much you’d like CDs and cassettes as well!”
Only the future will tell which ones of us will get our hands on one! So where can you get a confirmed non-limited edition preorder? Currently on Amazon. Preorder information can be found via Cain’s LinkTree.
