Queer Kentucky hires Bellarmine University student as spring intern
During the four years of Queer Kentucky, we have never had a successful intern. Just being honest here. Several have come out way from solid references, but they somehow seemed to stop showing up. The glorification of working for a Queer media company is not real, I can tell you that much, but we do have fun!
Our interns get tons of fun work and…not so fun work. This years intern, Mikey, will be developing our TikTok page, seeking advertisers and funders, writing stories, learning how to network with the LGBTQ+ leaders of our state and so much more!
We have a great feeling about our spring 2022 intern. They’ve already become an asset to our organization and we are SO grateful to have them.
Let’s hear a little bit from our intern:
My name is Michael Goodman. I am 21 years old and a senior Business Administration student at Bellarmine University.
I was born and raised in Kentucky, just outside of Louisville. Besides being a new intern with Queer Kentucky, I also work part-time at the Gap as a sales associate. I have two dogs, one terrier mix named Lady and a German shepherd named Sami, as well as a calico cat named Kiyomi.
In my free time I love sewing and making costumes, as well as playing with makeup and stepping in as the unofficial hairdresser for my friends and family. One of my favorite things to do is going to the theatre. Plays, musicals, opera, the ballet, I’ll watch it all! I spend most nights with my nose in a book, though, and my “To Read” stack of books only seems to grow no matter how many books I finish.
I am super excited to join Queer Kentucky and work with them during my last semester in college. As a trans man living in the bluest part of a red state, being an active member of the local LGBTQ+ community is very important to me.
I’m always looking ahead to the next challenge or goal to keep me motivated, and I can’t wait to start this new chapter with Queer Kentucky!
