QUEER KENTUCKY | KENTUCKY'S ONLY LGBTQ+ NEWSROOM

Independent Queer Journalism in Kentucky Takes Community

Community members gather at a Queer Kentucky legislative preview event in Newport, Kentucky.

Kentucky’s Only LGBTQ+ Newsroom Needs You

In Kentucky, the most dangerous laws often move quietly. Queer Kentucky exists so people know what’s coming and what it means for their lives.

We’re the only dedicated LGBTQ newsroom in the Commonwealth. In 2025, we took a 42% funding cut and still fought our way to a record year: 248 stories published, 8 million readers reached, and statewide coverage that grew by triple digits in Lexington, Northern Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, and Appalachia. Our health survey has now reached more than 4,100 respondents across 47 states and 76 Kentucky counties. Our work has been recognized by GLAAD twice and honored with NLGJA’s Jeanne Córdova Award. And we still have work to do.

None of it answers to political parties, advertisers, or institutions. It answers to the people most affected.

Your support funds:

  • Real-time reporting on legislation targeting LGBTQ+ Kentuckians
  • Health and harm-reduction journalism that fills gaps when systems fail
  • Statewide coverage of queer joy, art, culture, and community
  • Groundbreaking research into the lived experiences of over 4,000 Kentuckians

When traditional funding disappears, our Bedfellows keep the lights on. Join them with a monthly gift at any level, or support us with a one-time donation.
