Melanin Pride Weekend returns September 18-21 in Louisville
Melanin Pride Weekend will return to Louisville on Sept. 18–21, 2025, marking its ninth year as one of the region’s largest celebrations of Black culture and LGBTQ+ pride.
Founded and self-funded by Desiree Carr, creator of Pride Game Events, the four-day festival has grown from a grassroots gathering into a fixture of the city’s cultural calendar. The event features performances, nightlife, community activities and its signature kickball game.
“I created Melanin Pride Weekend to highlight the beauty, diversity, and unity within our community,” Carr said. “For nearly a decade, I’ve put my all into building this from the ground up.”
The 2025 schedule begins Thursday, Sept. 18, with Melanin Takeover, a citywide kickoff. An Open Mic Night follows Friday, Sept. 19. Saturday, Sept. 20, includes the All Shades of Melanin Day Party in the afternoon and Taste of Melanin Nightcap that evening. The weekend concludes Sunday, Sept. 21, with the Annual Kickball Game & Community Day.
Past lineups have included Saucy Santana, Norman Freeman, Rolling Up K, Hoochie Daddies and Shamar. Organizers said the weekend has become a platform for both established performers and emerging talent while also serving as a community space.
Looking ahead, Carr and her team plan to expand the 2026 event into a 10-year anniversary celebration with larger venues, national sponsors and a citywide presence. “2025 is about honoring our growth and preparing to take things to the next level for our 10-year anniversary in 2026,” Carr said. Sponsorships, vendor spots and media partnerships are currently available.
