Boone County to host second Pride festival Sept. 28
The Boone County KY Pride Festival will return Sept. 28 for its second year, offering a family-friendly afternoon of performances, vendors and community resources at Y’Alls Stadium in Florence.
The free event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at 7950 Freedom Way and will feature more than 70 vendors and organizations. Seventeen entertainers are scheduled to perform throughout the day. Stadium concessions will be open, with ballpark food, water and soft drinks available for purchase.
Organizers said the festival’s timing — on the eve of LGBTQ+ History Month in October — is intentional. The first Pride march in the United States took place in New York City on June 28, 1970, marking the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. The Boone County celebration, organizers said, aims to honor that history while creating a joyful, safe space for LGBTQ+ residents and allies in Northern Kentucky.
Sponsors include the Fairness Campaign, Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, Just Fund KY and Kroger.
The Boone County Pride Steering Team, which formed to organize the festival, is a group of local queer and straight residents, advocates and pastors who say their goal is to build a county “inclusive and fair for all neighbors who identify as LGBTQ+.”
