Ten Queer-owned businesses to support during the post-holiday sales slump
Hey, you, quit hibernating! Your wrists will get all hairy. Seriously, the urge to couch rot after the holidays and severe weather is legitimate. Across the South, so many of our yards turned into a blown-up snow globe. But businesses owned by and in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community only get so many snow days before they really feel the need for support. Here’s a quick rundown of 10 queer-friendly gems in Kentucky that could use some warming up.
Bowling Green
A luxury pet resort that emphasizes no cages. When was the last time your furry companions got treated to a nice Spaw Day?
Covington
Creative House of Art and Design
Possibly the coolest CHAD in Kentucky, this shop features art classes for all ages. (Someday it will be warm enough to enjoy the outdoor space, too!)
Lexington
A critical hit, this venue is a dynamic coffee spot and tabletop gaming hub. Roll up, have a cinnamon roll, and roll some dice.
Too impatient to manifest spring? Check out this established florist’s offering of fresh and blooming plants galore.

Cozy, eclectic, and positively witchy, this vintage shop is home to a local art gallery, an apothecary, and more (including weekly tarot readings).
Book swaps, support groups, open-mic poetry nights. Name it and this big-hearted co-op offers it with plenty of caffeine on top.
This Portland-based bookstore features LGBTQ+ novels and countless titles available for preorder. Set and Setting? I’m sat.
Owensboro
Rolls and balls and cakes, oh my! Ashley Stewart’s small business packs a sweet punch for any craving.
Simpsonville
We could all use a 16-inch fiber body brush after the past few months, but this local farm’s specialty in lavender-based goods must be seen (and smelled) to be believed. #Medicinal.
