Soul Supper: an LGBTQIA Thanksgiving
by Perry Dixon
All LGBTQIA siblings, families, and those seeking to be allies are invited to Soul Supper, a free Thanksgiving Meal on November 21st.
We will gather and eat together from 7:00-8:30pm in the Fellowship Hall of Highland Baptist Church (1101 Cherokee Rd) with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free menu items included.
This is a non-religious event, so no prayer or hidden motives. At Highland, we are fully welcoming and affirming, though always seeking to be better, and we recognize the theological trauma so many churches continue to perpetrate against LGBTQIA siblings.
This meal is especially for those who might be unable to return home for the holiday—all should have a safe and welcoming table set for them at Thanksgiving.
Soul Supper is just one part of Highland’s effort to create a welcoming community within our walls and outside.
We owe a special thanks to Louisville Youth Group, Against the Grain, Payne Street Bakehouse, North Lime Donuts, and Heine Brothers Coffee for supporting the Pride Breakfast for LGBTQIA youth we celebrated this past September. That breakfast and this Soul Supper on November 21st hopefully serve to remind us all of the importance of love, welcome, and our connectedness to one another.”
