Alright, enough of all of this cold. We’ve just endured enough ice and snow to last us all winter and I’m longing for summer days filled with queer connection and activities. Do you think we can top “Brat Summer” in 2025? Or maybe you’re looking for more of a “Red River Gorge” kind of summer. Regardless of your taste in warm weather fun, let’s look at some potential summer pastimes we can look forward to during this cold and wet winter season!
Red River Gorge and other Hiking Locations
The first active activity on our list is Red River Gorge and literally the hundreds of hiking locations around Kentucky. Check out Natural Bridge and crash out in one of the beautiful Canopy Crew Cabins! Not interested in these? Check out all the hiking and camping options here.
Frontrunners Lexington
Join a community of sweaty gays! Frontrunners Lexington is a run/walk club that promotes running and fitness in the entire LGBTQ and allied community. Stay active and make friends.
Big Four Bridge / Louisville Waterfront
The Big Four Walking Bridge is by far the best casual activity to do during the summer months in Louisville. Enjoy the beautiful Waterfront Park and hop on over to the Indiana side for some Parlour pizza!
The Carnegie
Whether on stage, in the classroom or in a gallery, The Carnegie inspires creativity for all. This summer catch one of many shows including The Color Purple, Always…Patsy Cline and Grease!
Gateway Regional Arts Center
In June, GRAC will be presenting Mean Girls, Jr, which has to be one of THE gayest ways to celebrate Pride in Mt. Sterling.
Newport Aquarium
One of the best ways to cool off during the hot summer months is having large stingrays swim over your head in the aquarium walkway at the Newport Aquarium. 10/10 would recommend.
Kentucky Down Under
Who doesn’t love a Kangaroo? Check out Kentucky Down Under where visitors stroll through an open field where kangaroos and emus roam freely. Interpreters discuss the animals’ habits and habitats.
Lake Cumberland
Whether you’re a skier, tuber, hiker, or just looking to relax, Lake Cumberland offers something for everyone. Check out Lake Cumberland State Resort Park to customize your adventure.
Sunflower Farms
August is by far the best time to snag your favorite sunflowers. Create the most instagrammable moment at Evan’s Orchard. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop and also grab some ice cream.
All The Prides
Simply said — June is full of Pride events. Once dates are available, you will be able to find them all here.
