The Trans Wellness Summit was organized by community organizer Maddie Spalding, who works with TransWellness Coalition. The 2023 Transgender Wellness Summit, which will take place on Saturday, April 29th, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Student Activities Center at the University of Louisville, is sponsored by Mandala House. The keynote speakers at this gathering of healthcare professionals, advocates, and members of the transgender community will be Anya Marino and Alana McLaughlin. Anya Marino is the first transgender woman of color to teach at Harvard Law, and he is the current Miss Trans USA. Alana McLoughlin is a transgender woman, a US Army Special Forces veteran, and an MMA fighter.
“There is an entire political movement devoted to the eradication of transgender people and our rights. Under those circumstances, we must turn to our own community to find what safety we can, be it physical or emotional.” – Alana McLoughlin, on the Summit.
The workshops taking place include Gender Affirming Hormone Care, Suicide Prevention, BIPOC Transgender Mental Health, and Queer Sprituality. In addition, a new award will be presented in honor of a transgender woman and leading figure in the Kentuckiana Transgender Support Network and a lead organizer for the Transgender Wellness Summit: the Sarah McKinney Service Award.
