Bowling Green pride celebrates with entertainment and advocacy
Southern Kentucky better start getting ready now for Bowling Green’s Pride on October 23 at Circus Square Park! Celebrations will begin on Friday evening with the Official BG Pride Pre-Party at Donna’s Bar. This pre-party will feature prime entertainment by the Primadonnas and all the glamour that goes along with that group.
On Saturday, October 23, beginning at noon, Circus Square Park will be decked out with local vendors, food trucks, drag entertainment, music, and so much more. Entertainment will feature performers including the Daddy Sisters, Solar Disco Force, and Jamie Resch.
Some of the most renowned names in drag will be taking the stage including Lily Lane, Geneva La Diva, Spectra Cosmos, Venus Knight, Scarlett M. Valentine, and Lexi Von Simmons. Come out to this free event to celebrate your queerness and visibility with others in the community.
Entertainment and vendors will be set up until 5 p.m. Once the party settles down at Circus Square Park, the crowd is invited to march to Bowling Green City Hall to rally for a much-needed fairness ordinance after the last three have been left shy of one vote.
Of course, the pride celebrations aren’t stopping there! Don your best outfit for the Bowling Green Pride Crawl! From 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., there will be an evening drag show at Circus Square Park featuring the same fabulous performers from earlier in the day.
On top of that, nearly every business on the square in downtown Bowling Green will be joining in on the love and celebration of pride for 2021. Hit up all these locations for a special pride-themed treat including, Tidball’s, Donna’s Bar, Hilligan’s, Three Brothers, Dublin’s Pub, Alley Pub and Pizza, Gasper River Brewing, Hickory and Oak, Micki’s on Main, Cliffs of Moher, and Gerard’s Tavern.
Once you’ve gotten your drag fix and some specialty cocktails then it’s time to hit up Donna’s Bar and Tidball’s to hear the musical talents from queer performers including People-Proof, Laura King Neville, Imaginary Friend, Astronomy Club, Young Romantics, Wet Eyed Liars, and Haley Jo Band. BG Fuzion will also be hosting an after-party drag show at their venue.
“This year is all about celebrating visibility and the resilience of the queer community in Bowling Green,” Said Patti Minter who is one of the founding members of Bowling Green Fairness. Her excitement for Bowling Green’s Pride was contagious and 2021 is set to be sickening on October 23.
This is the fourth year that the Fairness Campaign has helped to organize Bowling Green Pride. The first year was in 2017 and they are expecting 2021 to be the best year yet.
